DIGITALIZATION OF FRENCH MANUFACTURING ACTORS

French industries have been going through a long digital transition since they realized it was unavoidable to stay competitive.

The whole indsutrial sector went through a major stage, and now the main question is not if a digitalization process should be started but how to start it.

Today, what is at stake is that data should be at the heart of industrial companies’ digital transition strategies. Indeed, the value of an activity can be determined by the data it generates; data represent the core understanding of a business. Frome there, relevant indicators can be set up.

OBSTACLES TO DIGITALIZATION

  • Complex industrial environments (restrictions: electromagnetic, poor network coverage, …)
  • Diversity of communication networks
  • Diversity of solutions already in use in some factories (Provisionning, battery management, cybersecurity)
  • Multiplicity of IoT plateforms

growth DRIVERS

  • Data : data collection leads to a « data-driven » management.
  • Virtual reality can be used to train field operators.
  • Human-centric smart factory :  streamline collaborators’ workload by digitizing working methods.
  • Take the decision-making process to another level by relying on real-time data.
  • Smart factories: make communication from machine to machine possible thanks to the OPC-UA* protocol.
  • Robotics improve working conditions for better performances and therefore better competitiveness.

*OPC-UA : Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture is a machine to machine communication protocol adapted for industrial automation (for IoT interoperability).

USE CASE

Originally, SNCF Réseau agents must visit works areas regularly to conduct isolation measurements on eletrical circuits. These measurements are of the highest importance for the SNCF as an isolation defect could alter the network.

Original need: to make the measurement process automatic in order to monitor equipment during works carried out by SNCF.

PREDITIC solution: a mobile app and a web-based dashboard combined with sensors on the field that carry our real-time remote monitoring of signal equipment during maintenance works. Its value lies in the collection and centralization of a great amount of data and more importantly in the algorithms specifically developed to make the analysis possible.
Setting alerts is possible (texts, emails) and allows a perfect visibility of real-time status of the electrical equipment.

The solution is provided as a mobileapp for SNCF Réseau’s agents and as a web-based dashboard for the team managers.

Benefits for SNCF Réseau

  • Visibility on the quality of the rail network,
  • Optimization of the maintenance operation rounds,
  • Decrease in the number of isolation-based breakdowns and better availability of infrastructures,
  •  Improvement of reactivity in case of breakdowns up by 70%,
  • 15 % in productivity for over 2000 agents,,
  • Positive ROI 6 months after deployment.
